Producteur du premier album de Blanche, assistant de Jack White sur  le dernier Loretta Lynn, co-auteur, toujours avec White, de &laquo;&nbsp;la  r&eacute;ponse de D&eacute;troit au <em>Nevermind <\/em>de Seattle&nbsp;&raquo; (pr&eacute;vu  pour le milieu de l&rsquo;ann&eacute;e), il a finalement trouv&eacute; 5 minutes pour  nous livrer <em>The Alternative to Love<\/em>, son 3e effort  fait maison. Benson y assure les vocaux, la guitare, la basse et la  batterie, presque sans aide, avec un &eacute;tonnant souci du d&eacute;tail.  Partant de m&eacute;lodies simples, donc facilement auto-scotchantes dans  la premi&egrave;re oreille venue, le bonhomme enrobe sa musique dans une  foule d&rsquo;arrangements, sans rien surcharger. Juste de quoi  accompagner sa voix fluide, qui rappelle celle de Jude, sur les  galipettes pop <em>Spit It Out<\/em> ou <em>Cold Hands (Warm Heart)<\/em>.  Seule concession &agrave; la grandiloquence&nbsp;: ce <em>Pledge of  Allegiance<\/em> aux percussions qui r&eacute;sonnent comme dans un hymne  Motown. Pour le reste, on suit la route de Benson sous le soleil de  compositions lancinantes et d&eacute;sinvoltes &agrave; la Girls in Hawaii  (<em>Alternative to Love<\/em>, <em>Get It Together<\/em>) et de ballades  plus intimes (<em>Them and Me<\/em>, <em>Biggest Fan<\/em>), sans se  lasser.
